CMS teacher, Gary Collins, wrote an application for a small grant to start an outdoor club at school. He found out in early September that he was awarded the grant. On September 24, Mr. Collins and CMS Principal, Sandra Cookson, attended an informational day sponsored by Teens to Trails. The day had breakout sessions on a number of topics from rules and regulations about student outings, activities to prepare students for trips off school grounds, equipment and first aid needs, selecting trip destinations, and how Teens to Trails can support clubs as they plan their events. Getting an Outing Club set up and active at CMS is a goal for Mr. Collins, who believes in the calming and educational benefits of being outside.
