Brooklyn Gives to CCES

Freshman Brooklyn Hichborn is a student we are especially proud to claim as one of our own at CHS.  Since the age of 6, she has been using her birthday as a means to give rather than to receive.  This year, she chose to donate supplies to our district's own Central Community Elementary School.  "I just remember thinking that I get enough on Christmas and other times, and so I just wanted to give to others on my birthday" she said, when asked about why she began doing this.  In the 9 years of her giving,  she has given things to groups ranging from childcare facilities, to Maine Vets Home, to Camp Hope, the Bangor Humane Society, and Shaw House.  Once she decided on CCES, Brooklyn reached out to the school to ask what things they needed (those items can be seen in the photo accompanying this story).  I asked her when she starts planning for the next year and she said she usually starts very soon after her gift for the current year has been given.  Brooklyn sets an example for all of us as someone who lives the idea that it truly is fullfilling to give to others and know that you have made a difference by providing help for others in need.  Way to go, Brooklyn!
