The ONLY sure fire way we will keep COVID-19 transmission from happening in our schools is if the virus doesn’t enter them. In an effort to prevent sickness from entering, we are asking all parents and students to be vigilant about daily screening. We know this is challenging because the virus can be present without someone having symptoms however, we are hoping everyone will commit to doing daily screenings and staying home if symptoms are present. Even if it’s not COVID-19, we don’t want to be spreading other sicknesses either! Please help keep our school community well! Here’s a graphic to help parents know when kids should stay home.

We are encouraging parents and caregivers to continue to transport students to and from school this year if they are able to do so. However, there is no distancing required on buses so we should have plenty of room for everyone. Masks are required on buses and in district vans. Students will also sanitize their hands when they enter. Arrival and dismissal procedures and traffic flow will stay the same as last year at each school. Please contact your school principal if you have questions.

All students and staff in RSU 64 will have the opportunity to participate in weekly pool testing for the early detection of COVID-19 starting Sept 7. This program is free and completely voluntary. Students and staff who participate will NOT need to quarantine if they are identified as a close contact. We are encouraging ALL staff and students to participate. Consent forms and more information will come home with students on their first day.

Today, Penobscot County is still designated as RED. If we continue in this high risk designation when school starts on August 26 we will be requiring masks for students and staff while inside buildings. Masks are required on ALL buses and district vans so please make sure students are prepared. Please know, there will be multiple opportunities for mask breaks throughout the day and you’ll see students and staff outside much of the time!

Central Middle School has a new sign! Visible from the shared campus driveway, people entering will now be able to view messages pertaining to the operation of the middle school. Please don’t get distracted by the sign and forget to yield to traffic coming from the front of the middle school building. Communication is a priority for us but safety comes first!

Happy First Day of Summer Program! All three schools are hosting summer programs for students three mornings a week for four weeks. If you see our buses out and about, give our kids a wave and a smile. Learning doesn’t stop just because it’s summer!
