Hello everyone. Just wanted to let everyone know that we have added a page to highlight our Hirundo Outdoor Adventure Credit Recovery program. This program takes our students into the beautiful setting at Hirundo (in Alton) to spend time in nature and work on earning back credits needed for graduation. Look under the academics tab on the main page. There is a link there to register for anyone who wants/needs to do this.

Congratulations to our Outdoor track Athletes.

Good morning CHS Community. Two years ago, we bought lock boxes to house cell phones in as we read about and recognized the impacts cell phones have on a student's capacity to be engaged in their school day. As you know, we made the decision to move to a totally cell phone free day, not only in classrooms, but in the hallways and in the cafeteria for lunch time. At the high school level, we asked students to be responsible and to keep their phones off and stored away in the lock boxes, their lockers, or in backpacks. We have confiscated them when they did not comply with that. At this point, we have students who continually take advantage of that policy, keeping them in their pockets, going into bathrooms for extended periods to use them, or leaving their classes to find other ways to get on their phones. Because of this, we are going to make a shift in our procedures. Students will now be required to place their phones in the lock boxes each day. Teachers will have them sign them in and out. For student drivers, our suggestion is that phones remain in their vehicles for the day. Consequences remain the same for failure to follow this procedure. Phones will be confiscated every time we see them. The second confiscation will result in detention and third and subsequent confiscations will necessitate parents retrieval of the phone from school. Cell phones are a distraction and we are doing this in the best educational interests of your students. I am happy to address parent concerns and appreciate anything you can do to help prepare your students for this change which will take effect on April 12th as we start the fourth quarter.
